A bear with very little Brain but a very large Heart.
If you thought that Winnie-the-Pooh was a fictional character you would be wrong! Winnie-the-Pooh, the stuffed bear, was given as a present by A.A. Milne to his son, Christopher Robin Milne, on his birthday. Winnie was originally christened Edward Bear, but later Christopher Robin changed his name to Winnie after a black bear he had seen at the zoo, and added “The Pooh” after a swan he had seen whilst on holiday. Winnie-the-Pooh’s birthday is documented as 21st August 1921.
Pooh, as portrayed by A.A. Milne in his series of books, is a loveable, heartwarming character who is extremely loyal to his friends and particularly loves Christopher Robin with all of his big heart. Although naive and slow-witted, he is steadfast and thoughtful, kind-hearted and loyal. He is also the composer of a great many poems and ‘hums’ which he uses in a variety of ways, from giving him courage to celebrating a special event.
Winnie-the-Pooh has been, and remain,s one of the best known and well recognised characters in British children's literature, and became an icon of England in a 2011 poll. He has been ranked as one of the most valuable fictional characters with merchandising products generating billions of dollars in revenue each year. Pooh got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2006, joining other Disney characters such as Mickey Mouse, Snow White and Donald Duck to celebrate his eightieth birthday.
Together with his friends Piglet, Eyore, Rabbit Tigger Owl, Roo and Kanga, Winnie-the-Pooh resides in the One Hundred Acre Wood. This is based on Ashdown Forest, located in South East England.
