Minerva Mouse, or Minnie as she would soon come to be known, was created in 1928 as a girlfriend for Mickey. She was introduced to us as the daughter of a farmer, Marcus Mouse, and the grand-daughter of Marvel and Matilda Mouse. Close friends with Daisy Duck and Clarabelle Cow, Minnie’s character is cute, playful, flirtatious and very feminine. She is quite the animal-lover, owning three pets; a cat called Figaro, a dog called Fifi and a mouse called Sweetie. A busy lady, in addition to her musical talents, she paints, sews and gardens.
Minnie joined the ranks of other animated celebrities, including Mickey, and received her own Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2018. She is an unofficial Disney princess, with Mickey Mouses declaring once, “Gosh Minnie, you’ve always been a princess to me”.
Like Mickey, Minnie’s silhouette is based on circles, with the addition of her ever-present hair bow. She very often wears either red or pink with polka dots, and is never seen without her trade-mark high heeled pumps. With her girlie character and sense of style, Minnie loves all handbags, jewellry and, of course, hairbows. Jewellry featuring Minnie Mouse remains ever popular and ranges from watches and charm bracelets to pendants and earrings.
